often referred to as brand names Botox® or Dysport®, affect how strongly your muscles contract.
By reducing how effectively facial muscles contract, we can reduce how strongly they pull on the skin, which reduces and prevents lines and wrinkles. “Botox” is often used synonymously with “neuromodulator” because it’s the most common brand. We offer both Botox® and Dysport® at Park. Our familiarity with these products allows us to artfully plan how much product to use and exactly where to put it to give the effect you want.

Your Tox Visit—Step-By-Step
1. CONSULTATION
First you’ll teach us about your face and share your goals. We give your face an initial examination and come up with a detailed plan with you. We’ll ask you to make a few different faces to see how your muscles work, so we know exactly how much neuromodulator to use and where to put it.
We’ll answer all your questions and make sure you are totally confident in your plan. We can do your initial consultation and injections on the same day!
2. TREATMENT
Treatment is quick! The entire process usually takes less than 15 minutes.
We’ll cleanse your face, mark out where the neuromodulator will have the best effect, and make sure you're comfy before getting started.
Tox needles are super small, so injections are usually not painful, and we have a few tricks up our sleeve to minimize any discomfort that arises!
3. 2-WK FOLLOW-UP
You will notice tox starting to work within a few days following treatment, and you’ll have most of the total effect at the two week mark.
We'll have a follow-up visit at two weeks so we can see the results and make adjustments if necessary!
4. FREQUENCY
Generally, Neuromodulator injectables last 3-4 months, but that varies from person to person. Once you feel that the treatment is wearing off, you’ll be ready for more!

Neuromodulators affect how strongly your muscles contract. By making your muscles contract less strongly, we can reduce and prevent wrinkles or subtly changing your resting facial expression. “Botox,” “neuromodulator,” and '“neurotoxin” are generally used interchangeably, including on our website. Health Canada approved Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin to treat age-related changes. While each has its pros and cons, we provide Botox and Dysport because of their safety record, proven effectiveness, and preferable effect duration.

Neuromodulator can have a powerful rejuvenating effect on several areas of the face. We most commonly treat forehead wrinkles, crow’s feet, eyebrow and nose wrinkles, downward turning mouth, and can give an eyebrow lift. We can also use Botox and Dysport to narrow the jaw, give a ‘lip flip,’ or reduce chin wrinkles. Many things can be done with neuromodulators to rejuvenate your look -- if you’re wondering about any specific effect, just ask!

Park aims to produce results that look as natural as possible, so very careful in deciding how much neurotoxin is right for you. Too little, and you won’t get the effect you’re hoping for; too much can cause a ‘frozen’ look. We also carefully choose which muscles to target, so the muscles that cause wrinkles are less active but the muscles that are essential for facial expression continue to work. Almost anyone can get Botox or Dysport, and most people will notice changes we think you’ll be happy with. Neurotoxins are not safe in pregnancy or while breastfeeding. There are a few other considerations about who should get neuromodulator or fillers and where -- actors or singers, for example, may prefer to avoid product in their lower face to avoid any changes to their ability to perform. Neuromodulators are safe, and come with a 25 year track record. Most people don’t have any side effects at all! If you do experience side effects, they are usually temporary and need no treatment at all. The most common side effects are mild swelling, tenderness, or bruising around the injection areas. People less commonly feel headache or forehead heaviness. Most side effects can be avoided with excellent injection technique and following post-injection instructions. We always follow-up with our clients two weeks after their injections to make sure everything is going well, and are always available if problems do come up.

The effect usually lasts 2-4 months, depending on where it's placed. Once the effect has mostly worn off, we recommend coming back for your next treatment. As you get more treatments, the effects will last longer and you may need fewer units.

Neuromodulators are priced per unit, so the cost depends on how many units you need to get the effect you want. The number of units you need depends on how many areas you’d like to treat and how strong your facial muscles are. Getting the right number of units is a balance between reducing the lines your muscles produce as they contract while maintaining your ability to make effective facial expressions.

Botox and Dysport are very similar, and we’re confident you’ll be happy with your results regardless of the brand used. Dysport tends to start working a couple of days faster and Botox, and Botox usually treats a smaller area than Dysport. Studies show that they last about the same amount of time on average, though some people find that one or the other may last longer for them.
